چکیده

This study attempts to predict the size of shunt in secundum atrial septal defects by non-invasive M-mode echocardiography. The areas under the excursions of the mitral and tricuspid valves were measured with a sonic digitiser and the ratio of these areas compared with the shunt size as obtained at c'atheterisation. The relation between the mitral and tricuspid valve areas in patients with atrial septal defect is significantly different from that in healthy subjects. There is a significant positive correlation between the ratio of mitral and tricuspid valve areas and the shunt size.

CONGENITAL PARTIAL PERICARDIAL DEFECT WITH HERNIATION OF THE LEFT ATRIAL APPENDAGE

Congenital defects of the pericardium are considered rare. Until 1979 , the reported cases were only about 200.1 Total absence of the left pericardium is the most common defect2 and less common is a partial defect of the left pericardium. Other types, i.e. isolated right-sided defects, total pericardial absence and diaphragmatic pericardial defects are very rare.3 Before the last decade, t...

Assessment of atrial septal defects in adults comparing cardiovascular magnetic resonance with transoesophageal echocardiography

BACKGROUND Many adult patients with secundum-type atrial septal defects (ASDs) are able to have these defects fixed percutaneously. Traditionally, this has involved an assessment of ASD size, geometry and atrial septal margins by transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE) prior to percutaneous closure. This is a semi-invasive technique, and all of the information obtained could potentially be obta...

Comparing Invasive and Non-Invasive of Isolated Shigella flexneri by Electron Microscopy of Cell Culture, SDS-PAGE and Congo Red Method

The aim of this study was to compare invasive and non-invasive strains of Shigella flexneri isolated from Tehran by a 120 kDa protein band by SDS-PAGE, electron microscopy of cell culture and Congo red dye methods. Methods: S. flexneri strains were isolated by standard bacterial methods from fecal specimens of children attending to the 3 children’s hospitals. Phenotype analysis for screening v...

Non-invasive assessment of atrial fibrillation (AF) cycle length in man: potential application for studying AF.

Non-invasive assessment of the fibrillatory frequency of atrial fibrillation (AF) can be performed by frequency domain analysis. The peak frequency in the derived spectrum can be converted to a dominant atrial cycle length (DACL). The DACL can be altered through autonomic modulation or pharmacologic manipulation, but the change in DACL is less marked in those with a short DACL value. In patient...

Pneumopericardium after Minimally Invasive Atrial Septal Defect Closure

Minimally invasive atrial septal defect (ASD) closure is a commonly performed cardiac surgical procedure and has good outcome. We report an interesting chest X-ray showing pneumopericardium in a patient who underwent ASD closure using a minimally invasive approach.
